Gobi II & III

Gobi is inspired by the desert - rich shimmering, ancient colours and textures wrought by fire, wind and time. Nanako-nuri uses tiny seeds placed on wet lacquer to create a surface of tiny craters. These become visible when lacquer of different colours is applied and sanded back to reveal a landscape of elemental modernity. Gobi is expressed in four versions with varying base tones like light transitioning to shadow.
