Monochrome: Vessels for Transformation

Alexander Lamont presents Monochrome: a series of vessels that turn ancient glassmaking into contemporary serenity.

Light caught in glass, colour distilled to its essence - each hand-blown vessel becomes a meditation on purity and form. Crafted through the demanding technique of overlay glass, molten colour is layered and shaped by breath and fire, then cooled, cut, and hand-polished with jade tools over several days. The result is a finish of rare depth and quiet radiance: where every curve and surface captures light with restrained brilliance.

In Monochrome, classical silhouettes such as amphora, gourd, and faceted forms are reinterpreted in single, luminous hues. Their simplicity is deliberate: each piece offers balance, calm, and focus - qualities that bring harmony to contemporary interiors. Whether standing alone as a sculptural statement or grouped in tonal contrast, the vessels are a mirage, reflecting their environment, and standing alone as their own quiet centres of gravity.

Rooted in a craft perfected in the Forbidden City’s imperial glassworks under Emperor Qianlong, Lamont’s interpretation transforms a once-royal art into modern orbits of beauty. These are not objects for display alone, but quiet presences - designed to bring colour, light, and contemplation to refined spaces.
